Thank you for visiting the Lawrenceburg City Court webpage. Here you will find information on how to resolve your Infraction Citations and Ordinance Violation Citations, hearing schedules, payment resources, and Court rules. Lawrenceburg City Court constitutes the judicial branch of the City of Lawrenceburg’s government and is a court of limited jurisdiction which handles City Ordinance Violations, Misdemeanor Offenses, and with the Court having geographical jurisdiction over Dearborn County, Indiana, the Court hears all Infractions filed within Dearborn County.

Court tours are available for local student groups upon request. 

Payments: The Court accepts cash, cashier’s checks, money orders, certified checks at the court’s payment window or pay online at public.courts.in.gov. The court does not accept personal or company checks. Payments cannot be processed after 4pm.

Lawrenceburg City Court Judge  


The Honorable Joseph R. Johns

Lifelong resident Hon. Joseph R. Johns was appointed to serve as the Lawrenceburg City Court Judge by Vice President Mike Pence, during his term as Governor, and took the Oath of Office on February 16, 2016. Judge Johns graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 2003 before attending Northern Kentucky University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and later his Juris Doctorate from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law, where he was named to the National Order of Scribes. He was admitted to practice in 2010 and is licensed before the State of Indiana and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. He maintains a law office with his brother at the Law Offices of Votaw & Schwarz, located in Lawrenceburg’s Historic Downtown. Judge Johns is a member of the Dearborn-Ohio County Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association, the American Bar Association, National Academy of Family Attorneys, the Indiana City and Town Court Judges Association and the Scribes: American Order of Legal Writers. 

Judge Johns currently serves on the Board of Warm the Children, which assists in providing warm clothing and goods to children in need; is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, an organization dedicated to the support of the American Legion and the advocacy for veteran’s issues; and serves as a Committee member on the Indiana City and Town Court Judges Association, Legislative Committee. His past organization involvement includes being a board member of the Lawrenceburg Main Street Organization, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish American Fraternal Organization.
